You catch dad downstairs and tell him that a friend of yours, Jason, is having a party, and you and Ronnie want to go. It's a little lie, but it can't hurt that much. Dad isn't so sure and asks for the address. Fortunately, you have it and give it to him. Your dad is actually pleased that you've got other friends besides Ronnie, although he's surprised you never talked about Jason before. You tell your father he's a new friend. It's another small lie, but after tonight you'll have loads of new friends, right?
Ronnie arrives and Dad tells you to be back by midnight. You agree to be home by midnight curfew. No problem. You and Ronnie walk over to the party. When you get to the house, loud music, and a lot of other noise, is blaring from inside. It sounds pretty wild. You and Ronnie aren't sure if you should just walk in. You figure the polite thing to do is to knock on the door. No one answers, of course. No one can hear you. Meanwhile you see some older people arriving. They're carrying cases of beer and are just walking right in, so you follow.
The music is loud and there seem to be hundreds of people everywhere. You're feeling a little nervous. A couple of older guys come up to you and ask what you're doing here. These guys seem pretty drunk and they start hassling you and Ronnie. Not a good beginning. You and Ronnie are just about to leave when some older girls come along and tell the guys to get lost. They invite you to sit down with them on the sofa. Hey, this isn't so bad after all.
"Hi, I'm Melanie and this is my friend Veronica," Melanie says, introducing them both.
You and Ronnie introduce yourselves. The girls pull out a joint, pass it around and offer it to you and Ronnie. "No pressure," Melanie says.
